The Mid-Peninsula Recorder Orchestra was formed in 1962 and is made up of thirty-eight dedicated amateur musicians who meet twice a month to play music for their own enjoyment and rehearse for the performances that the orchestra presents during its regular season from September to June.  These performances have taken place throughout the Bay Area, and the orchestra has appeared at the Berkeley Early Music Festival and on public television station KQED.  The orchestra regularly joins forces with other musical organizations and presents educational programs and workshops.  Membership is open without audition to anyone who knows the basics of the recorder and can read and play the music provided at the meetings.  The orchestra is an American Recorder Society Consort and affiliate of the San Francisco Early Music Society.

Founded in 1966 by musician, teacher and conductor William Whitson, the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra (PACO) is a premier training orchestra for Bay Area string players of high-school age or younger, which over its 35-year history has gained extensive local, national and international recognition. Regarded as one of the finest chamber orchestras for young musicians in the world, PACO recently captured First Prize in the Chamber Music Division at the 29th International Youth and Music Competition in Vienna, Austria.
